I was struck reading this passage by how much this echoes what Bernie Sanders is saying in his speeches at political rallies and by what he has said for the past 25 years. The surprise is that this was written in 1955 during the so-called “golden era” of the middle class in this country by Dorothy Day!
Perhaps it is time to actually change things….we do need a balanced social order. To quote Abraham Lincoln: that this nation shall have a new birth of freedom— and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth. Note he did not say; a government of the billionaires, by the billionaires, for the billionaires.
