e pluribus unum

Let us not forget the motto of these our United States of America; e pluribus unum, out of many, one.

The following words from the Declaration of Independence, approved by Congress on this date in 1776, should make us pause to consider what our past has been and what our future holds;

…the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither…

In context these words were written about the King of England for refusing to allow immigration into our country. What words do we, ourselves now use to discourage immigration?

Unless your ancestral lineage is pre-Columbian in this country, you are born of immigrants…

    Perfect for this day and every day, Roger. Happy Fourth of July! It’s my feeling that the people who are so tough on immigration and immigrants are the ones who should “self-deport”.

    In many ways, a very timely post. Thank you for it and the translation; out of many, one. You’ve got me thinking….
