As I finished working on the canvas “Open Water, Late Winter” I climbed down the river bank and saw the scene transformed by the late afternoon sun. This was the inspiration for psalm 189, a look up the West River Valley in southern Vermont.

I call these paintings psalms in praise for the spirit that I sense in the landscape.
