After spending a weekend at The Priory, a Benedictine monastery, in Weston, Vermont I came upon this view on the drive home. This work captures the first rays of the sun over the mountains. It was a mild winter this year so the rivers opened early, pushing the ice onto the flood plain. This painting is heavily textured with many layers of paint creating the blurring effect that our vision gets in low light situations like dawn.
I call these paintings psalms in praise for the spirit that I sense in the landscape.
